Business Intelligence (BI) is a combination of methodology and technology that transforms Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) data, unstructured data, or raw data into meaningful and useful information that can be used to enable effective strategic, analytical, and mission-critical decision making.

BI technologies perform:

  • Reporting and dashboards

  • Analytical processing

  • Data mining

  • Business performance management

As part of the BI initiative at the State of Wisconsin, the Division of Enterprise Technology (DET) is partnering with state agencies to provide a cost-effective and maintainable BI technology and platform, so that State agencies can make intelligent, fact-based decisions and conduct reporting to improve productivity. With this service approach, State agencies can stay focused on core business objectives and service delivery to citizens.

Tableau is business intelligence (BI) software that delivers fast analytics and visualizations on data from any source – without writing a single line of code. You'll be able to connect to data, create interactive data visualizations and publish them to Tableau Server or your website. From dashboards to ad hoc reports, Tableau lets you share interactive analytics in a few clicks.

DET provides the business intelligence platform/infrastructure so agency staff can focus on business intelligence development (dashboards and reports) efforts and business needs.

DET ensures the coverage and continuity of the Tableau servers.
