ActiveSync Process

The following details the proper process to request ActiveSync.

  1. View the SmartPhone process flow.
  2. Click here to confirm access to a Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) or ActiveSync and support for those devices.
    • DOA Enterprise is no longer supporting Blackberry services.
  3. If using Windows Mobile SmartPhones via DOA's ActiveSync, be familiar with DOA/DET's ActiveSync Service Offering Definition and ActiveSync Roles and Responsibilities documents.
  4. Note that it is a supervisory responsibility to gain the employee signature on this form prior to submitting a Service Request to connect employee funded wireless service to the Enterprise Email System.
  5. Perform a needs assessment:
    • Are e-mails of a time-sensitive nature requiring constant connectivity and immediate response or action?
    • Do job responsibilities require mobility with a large percentage of time spent in locations where desktop access to e-mail is not available?
    • Would use of this technology result in the consolidation or reduction of other state owned devices currently used (e.g., cellular, PDA, laptop)?
    • Have vendor coverage maps been reviewed to verify the service is available in required areas?
  6. Review contracted vendor device/service/plan options.
  7. Match user needs to vendor options. Device selections depend on devices supported by Agency Desktop Support.
  8. Justify cost (be sure to include DOA Desktop Support costs, if applicable). Click here for a template that should be completed & presented as part of the Agency's internal approval process.
